Who am I?

If asked what the most important lesson my mother taught me as a child, my answer would be, “If you want it, create it.”

It would’ve been in Spanish or in her beautiful ‘broken’ english. At the time she was talking about a coloring book she refused to buy for me. She knew I had the talent to make my own. This lesson has followed me throughout my entire life.

My parents immigrated to the United States after meeting each other in my dad’s homeland; Israel. Mom moved there as a young Jewish, Polish Colombian for ‘better opportunities', as Medellin; her hometown was in the height of the drug cartel epidemic. Together, my parents became bohemian dreamers who decided to raise my brother and I to be intelligent, creative and conscious children who would make the difference in the world they hadn’t had the opportunity to. Mom was my first art teacher through museum visits and art books. Dad was my building instructor, showing me how to create 3D artworks with his wood cutting leftovers and wood glue. We didn’t have cable tv, and most of my ‘toys’ were art supplies. From age five, I was sewing my dolls' clothing out of the single socks that were lost in the laundry, designing and building Barbie mansions and convertibles out of cereal and shoe boxes. I loved painting, collaging, and illustrating my own story books. I constructed everything I could ever dream up in my head.

Since then I earned my BFA from Parsons the New School of Design in 2011. I had my designs published in fashion design books, and went on to design garments for various fashion brands, such as Alice & Olivia and J.Mendel. The most gratifying part of this journey was seeing my designs worn by women who inspire me, including Gwen Stefani, Malala Yousafzai and Janelle Monae.

Like in my childhood, I continue creating whatever comes to my imagination through whichever medium I feel a connection to for the purpose of creating beauty in this world and inspiring others to do so as well.

In September 2022, I began a new journey as a Master’s Degree student in Landscape Architecture at The Bernard and Anne Spitzer School of Architecture (City College New York).

Things I enjoy:

Plants and flowers, music and dance, painting, writing notes, learning how to Re-Wild planet Earth, painting on clothing, collaging, reading about plant care and gardens, taking pictures of things I feel inspired by, and cooking for the people I love.
